Five reasons I didn’t start a travel blog sooner.

Since the invention of blogging, everyone who knows me has asked why I don’t have a travel blog. Does the world need another travel blogger? As you will see a lot of my hesitation had to do with fear. Some real, some imagined.

I was afraid it would become a job. (Hear me out) A job tied to traveling will be my dream job, but for right now I mostly do personal travel. I get so much from traveling (relaxation, education, connection) I was afraid if it becomes a job I won’t enjoy it as much because everything I do will be geared towards likes and views. That cannot be my motivation, but it’s unavoidable in this era.

I was afraid it wouldn’t be interesting and I’d stress myself out trying to create interesting content. I want my posts to be authentic and organic and not staged. (I’m thinking of all the trips I’ve taken pre social media days.) I want to talk about finances and encourage people especially millennials to fund their 401k/retirement accounts and savings while taking trips…standard boring stuff.
I was afraid of trolls and going down the rabbit hole of arguing with people on the internet, whose only job is to be mean and argue just for sport.
I was afraid I wouldn’t have time. I’m not sure how much time commitment this will take. I assume to be successful I need to put in some hours of work, to write, edit and post regularly. I’m getting flashbacks of college paper deadlines.

Procrastination. Once I made the decision to write, I just kept putting it off.
